Tao of Tea teas and blends are traditionally hand-processed, using the entire tea leaf instead of crushed-up pieces and stems. This process can be slow, so most tea companies tend to avoid it; only 5% of all tea in the world is created this way. Full-leaf teas are more than worth it, though – they stay fresh longer and are more flavorful.

This small-batch, traditional processing method also allows Tao of Tea to be at the forefront of fair-trade and organic farming practices. They were one of the first five companies in the US to gain Fair Trade certification for some of their teas, and are able to provide one of the largest selections of organic tea blends on the American market.

We especially love their “500 Mile” chai blend, so named for its ability to sustain India's truck drivers over insanely long distances. Try it for yourself, or give it to someone you would walk five hundred miles (and then five hundred more) for. (Yes, we've had this song stuck in our heads since we got our latest tea shipment. Now you probably do, too. You're welcome.)
